Crop Share

This summer a friend and I decided to split a crop share from a local, organic farm in New Boston, NH, named Middlebranch Farm. We've had four weeks now of freshly picked, organic veggies. This week's crops were mesculin mix salad, bok choy, green onions, zucchini, tomatoes and new potatoes. There really is a difference in taste from what you find in most grocery stores. If you don't have a local farmers market (which we of course don't), this is a great way to support local farmers and reap the benefits! Look into it in your community.

That's really neat.. I've never heard of anything like that. How would I find out about similar things in my area? Any ideas?

I'd search online for local farms, or if you know of local farms, stop and ask if they are share croppers. I know you have lots of farm stands in the area, so you definately have local farmers selling their produce.

yum! i did this when we were in rochester and it was awesome. i hope i can find something similar in brookline. you get the coolest stuff. and some stuff that sits in the refrigerator for ages while you wonder what to do with it.

We've gotten some of those mystery veggies as well...I'm not sure that the farmer knows what to do with them, either. She always seems to say, "eat it raw or saute it."

Way cool. You can count me in when I move to NH.

Hey I was just searching for NH crop shares, and found your blog. Thanks for the info! Just a note- there is a farmer's market every Thursday from 3 to 6:30 in Victory Park here in Manchester (Chestnut St. & Concord St.)
