Summertime Blues

Summer vacation just isn't what it used to be. Post kids, that is. Remember summers during high school and college when you squeezed in a few days of work in between sunning yourself at your best friend's pool? Now, it's a marathon day of juggling all the roles bestowed upon you once you decided to "stay home": housekeeper, social planner, lifeguard, handywoman around the house (OK, I haven't screwed the kitchen cabinet door back on yet, but I will...) and mistress of the basement laundry room. All in the sweltering humidity of late July in New England. The highlight of my day now is my morning run to DD for iced coffee. But all the older parents I meet tell me that I'll actually miss these days when my girls are grown. Hmm...maybe they're right. Something tells me they could be wrong, though. As Nana Jane would say, "that remains to be seen."

Mel, I feel your pain. I promise next summer will be better!

I think you should shut up and screw the cabinet door back on! Just kidding... I offered to take the kids through my 2 week boot camp course. I find it odd that you didn't accept.
