Angry Women's Club Announces New Member

Geraldine Ferraro is the newest member to join the club after making this outlandish statement: "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

what part of the statement makes it outlandish?

What does Obama's race have to do with his success so far in this election? A black candidate could not make it this far on the black vote alone. Obama is a candidate who appeals to so many Americans for so many reasons: he's a truthful, intellectual and inspiring leader who rises above partisan politics and race.

If you think Ferraro's statement has any merit, you would certainly have to say it applies to Hillary Clinton as well. Would Hillary be where she is if she weren't a woman? That argument just doesn't resonate.

As Pop would say, "I ain't no Indian, but I know war-talk when I hear it." ; )

Yet again, another Popism to add to the list!

As an honorary Smith "sister", Chris is going to have to deal with our opinions and tantrums.

I love your blog title.

Stipulating that everything you say about him is true, I still don't think he would be winning this particular election race if he were a white freshman senator from Illinois. Prior to this primary season, the Clintons had a very strong base among African American voters. I am not saying that he is winning on the black vote alone, but if there was no strong black candidate in this race, Clinton would be getting a much larger percentage of those votes in addition to the ones she is getting now. Just my opinion. It seems like Obamaniacs get their panties in a twist anytime anyone says anything that doesn't glorify him as the savior he clearly is. So there!

I don't consider myself an "Obamaniac", (and by the way, no wadded up panties here) I'm just defending what I think was a grossly inaccurate portrayal of a good candidate who has waged a good campaign. I'm surprised Hillary Clinton has done as well as she has considering her very polarizing persona. I personally don't vote based on race, gender or any other defining factor. I wouldn't care if Barack Obama was purple with yellow polka dots, I would still feel strongly about supporting him.

So there!!

Newi: I kind of liked the post title, too :)

And Chris, Obama is picking up a lot of support among demographics that Hillary is not, including white working professionals, Independents (like me) and Republicans who are disgusted with their own party.

I am not arguing whether Obama is a good candidate or a good man. I was only trying to say that what Ferraro said makes sense within a certain context. I will be voting for him if he wins the nomination.

oh - and I was not directly the twisted panties or obamaniac comments towards you specifically. I have no direct knowledge of your personal panty situation ;) There are definitely some cult-like qualities to SOME of his supporters though. Nobody is allowed to criticize him in any way without them going ballistic.

Thanks for keeping my panties out of it!! :)
