My 86-year-old grandfather took a one-day, round-trip flight to Washington, D.C., last Wednesday to see the World War II Memorial. Papa is a Navy veteran who served on a PT Boat. This trip was planned and paid for by Patriot Flight, the Albany, NY, chapter of Honor Flight, a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to take as many WWII veterans to the WWII Memorial as possible.
The organization pays for everything: the flight, ground transportation, meals, wheelchairs, and medical personnel. Patriot Flight has made four flights to the memorial, at a cost of $70,000.
